Building a MA5B replica

Hi,
I had an idea to build an airsoft version of the MA5B Assault Rifle. I have a great rifle candidate, the FAMAS. I have schematics for a countdown shot counter too. Yesterday I was studying screenshots when I realized something -

Where the f*** does the magazine go? I've looked at dozens of pictures, and I can not find a magazine well anywhere...

Anyone have any ideas?

halo 3 announced(sorta) to coincide with ps3 system release next year

The retailer predicts that Master Chief will fight again in June 2006 on the Xbox 360; also lists 360 versions of DOA VBall 2, Theseis, Metronome, and [eM].
One of the biggest news stories during this past Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles didn't even happen at the convention. In an article with Time Magazine (which not-so-coincidentally came out just before the major press conferences), Microsoft top dog Bill Gates lobbed a plasma grenade right in the crotch of rival Sony with this announcement: "The day Sony launches [the PlayStation 3]… they walk right into Halo 3."

At least one retailer is taking Gates' words to the bank. GameStop has now begun to take preorders for Halo 3 on its Web site. The product page shows no box art or game information, but its June 1, 2006, estimated release date, $59.99 price tag, and Xbox 360 platform has fans of the sci-fi series dual-wielding joy and anticipation.

However, it isn't time to start checking prices on high-def TVs just yet. It's become common practice for online retailers to begin taking preorders based on mere speculation. To quote the site:

"NOTE: Content based on the best available information. Price, release date, content and title are subject to change and/or cancellation by vendor."

Gates' announcement may have shocked many, but not all. Thinking more like cutthroat business moguls rather than game developers tweaking ones and zeros, several conspiracy theorists and Web sites figured that Halo 3 launching simultaneously with the PlayStation 3 would make the most business sense for Microsoft. And it wouldn't be shocking--the company has made a similar move before.

Microsoft Game Studios delayed Halo 2 for a year to November 2004, which also happened to coincide with Sony's launch of its new slim-line PlayStation 2. The result? Halo 2 sold like gangbusters, Xbox Live subscriptions doubled, and Xbox consoles flew off the shelf. Thanks to the popular shooter, Microsoft finally toppled the Japanese company as the monthly leader in the gaming industry, a feat that the Microsoft brass hasn't been curt about.

Even with Gates' declaration, no official announcement of Halo 3 has been made. When speaking with GameSpot just before Microsoft's press conference at E3, Microsoft corporate vice president of worldwide marketing and publishing, Peter Moore, remained mum on the subject, and Halo developer Bungie has denied that a third chapter of the Spartan shooter is in the works.

However, it doesn't mean the Washington-based developer isn't telling a little corporate white lie. Bungie has stated that it won't be working on new downloadable maps for Halo 2 after the release of July's Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack, as it is working hard on an "unnamed project," which, with Gates' boasting, seems more and more likely to be Halo 3.

Hi everyone,

Here's my proshizzle:

My best friend sent me his extra copy of Halo 2. Its still shrink wrapped and in the box.

My brother is sending me his ununused Xbox, but he's a slacker like me, so that might take a week or so.

My roommates are all going to be out of town over this holiday weekend.

I don't have to work until next monday.

I have a 55" HDTV, Halo 2, and NO Xbox.

I haven't been able to find anywhere that rents consoles near where I live (Lower Pac Heights, corner Pine/Buchanan).

Outside of buying an XBox and then returning a week later,

CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT?

I'm itching to play.

By taking away the ability to zoom in, did they totally cut the balls off this, my favorite weapon? I'm stoked to try dual-wielding, the energy sword, TRACKING rockets, improved Needler, etc, but not sure I like losing this feature...

I know there's a whole lot of Halo videos out there, but I'm gonna take initiative on some shameless self promotion for mine.

A quick rundown:
It's a 56MB Quicktime file, and it's worth the D/L time if you've got a good connection and you play Halo as much as me and my friends do. So far I've only gotten very positive response to this video.
It's a music video for my fast and aggresive techno made out of Halo sound samples (and a little R.V.B), quick-cut music video editing of selected scenes from nearly 100 hrs. of me and my friend's lan parties.
If you really enjoy the video, and would like an Invisible People Suck DVD (ltd.100) I've only got a few copies left, and am fully willing to distibute them to those who would be truly appreciative.

So the story goes there is a new trailer for halo 2 in theatres which can be viewed here http://www.xbox.com/en-US/halo2/

Just make sure you choose the cinema trailer. When you watch the trailer at the very end under the xbox symbol it says www.xbox.com and very quickly changes to www.ilovebees.com which is the hacked website in question. If you go to the website a flash movie load and has a bunch of techno jargon that comes up along with a countdown timer that will end in a little over 3 days. There is an faq underneath it that says what happened to this website click here. If you click on the word here you get a list of articles conataining things like what is it counting down to and some historic events that happened on aug 24 which is in a little over 3 days from now.
Including a mention of aug 24 1995 when microsft released win 95. So rumors are flying that possibly they finished halo early and it may ship on the 24th. But maybe not take a look for yourself.

HALO on a 40'x60' screen

Hey all,
There's a videogame tournament coming up on July 23 in San Jose, Calif. and I'm hoping you can help me get the word out about it. It's hosted by the Tech Museum of Innovation and what makes it unique is that finalists for several of the games will duke it out on the Giant Dome Screen - which is otherwise used for IMAX films.

The Xbox games in the tournament are NASCAR Thunder 2004, SSX 3 and, of course, HALO. Finals for all three will be played on the Giant Dome Screen. You can get a look at it here: http://www.jgpr.com/maxgames/gds.jpg . The theater has a 44 speaker, 13,000 watt sound system.

The tournament will also feature two of the creators of "Red vs. Blue", who will talk about the series during the day and show episodes on the Giant Dome Screen during the evening. Bungie will also provide a hi-res version of their nine-minute trailer for HALO 2.

The tournament website is http://www.thetech.org/maxgames . If you know anyone in the Bay Area who might be interested, please pass the word along.

On the chance you're a PS2 or Gamecube player, the tournament games for those consoles are PS2: Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4, DDR Max 2 and Downhill Domination; Gamecube: Mario Kart Double Dash, Super Smash Brothers Melee and Super Monkey Ball 2. Finals for Downhill Domination, Super Monkey Ball 2 and Mario Kart Double Dash will be played on the Giant Dome Screen.

Halo Custom Edition is a new version of Halo that is free for all HaloPC owners (meaning you need a HALO PC CD key to install). This unsupported version of HaloPC is a stand alone version created to introduce a bunch of new features to HaloPC. The most important of which is the ability to play user created content. HaloCE features a set of tools, tutorials and source art, a powerful package (Halo Editing Kit) which will allow users to create their own custom content for HaloCE.

It will take a little while to get them downloaded, the mirrors are pack, as you can imagine.

video card recommendation?

I haven't considered myself a PC gamer since the days of Leisure Suit Larry. This has made it very easy to survive @ home with my 1ghz Celeron system. However, I've finally reached the breaking point. I'm building a new system for myself, with the intent to finally check out some of these PC games.

Here's what FedEx just delivered:
Gigabyte GA-8IK1100 (i875P chipset) motherboard
P4/2.8EGHz (800mHz FSB, 1MB cache) CPU
Kingston DDR 256MB|DDR400 CL3 PC3200 RTL (totalling 512mb)

I held off on the video card as I wanted to do some research first. Now, bearing in mind I am NOT a hardcore gamer nor do I suspect that I will get sucked into it. For now, I simply want a good value card that will run Halo well. There seem to be a lot of brand loyalists out there saying "the ATI All in Wonder is the only way to go" or "ATI is crap, get the new NVidia". It's all making my head swim, so I thought I would check in here. As far as features go:

DVI output = doesn't really matter
dual monitor = no plans to use, but might be nice
S-video = I would hope so
TV Tuner = really nifty IF it doesn't raise the price too steeply

I'm unclear on if a 128mb might meet my needs, or if I NEED to go with 256 or what. Your thoughts?

For those not already familiar with this, there is a new website:

They have nearly every halo video made on this server. You can either go to the HaloTVGuide and pick one, or go to "Channels" which will cycle through all the available videos and play them one after the other, ad infinitum. From "Channels" you can pick between HaloTV (General Halo vids, some tricks, some gameplay), HaloTV Live (shows live gameplay on rare occassion), or HaloTV N00bvision (mostly tips and tricks and strategies). I mentioned this tool in a separate email but wanted to point it out explicitly since its very useful for finding each other while playing online, you can download it from www.xfire.com

its a messenger tool like AIM, ICQ, yahoo messenger, however the cool feature it has is that it detects if you playing Halo (or any other online PC game) and posts that info to your profile so that your friends can locate which server you playing on very easily.

I haven't seen much activity here of late, so i decided to post a link to a Halo video i made last week. It shows you how to get a Warthog on the top bridge level of Infinity. I made it after someone told me it was impossible to do with just one person, without using and hacks or mods. Hacking Halo

A few months ago, I downloaded a video off Kazaa of someone hacking Halo. This must have been the XBox version because the PC version hadn't been released yet. He had some amazing cheats that he was using in the opening sequences of story mode. He was able to shoot down a Covenant Transport Ship with one shot from a pistol, he couldn't die, he could change bodies with other characters in the game, he could enter and control a Wraith! The best one was that he could do a super-jump. I want to do a super-jump! Does anybody know how to do this? It almost looks like he broke it down to source code and allowed some attributes that were previously blocked. Does this have anything to do with Game Shark?

-banshees in multiplayer
-elites with plasma canons
-all the old weapons, too
-levels on earth as well as on the remaining parts of "Halo"
-tougher A.I.
-new grenades, I think ones a flashbang based on the footage I've seen
-Xbox live play

XBox Mod

Has anybody done this successfully? I installed one of those Apple cards that are supposed to allow you to play burned discs and downloaded stuff. It worked absolutely flawlessly the first time I used it, then it crapped out. Right now, it's like I don't even have a mod installed. Weird. As much as I really don't want to attack my XBox again with a soldering iron, I think I might have to... either to remount it, or remove it.

They are not in stores yet, but you can get them at cmdstore.com, or ebay has some as well. They are a little expensive($20 bucks or so) but very well done. There is an active camo MC, red MC, blue MC, green MC, a warthog, and a ghost.

HALO 2 IN-DEPTH LOOK

Microsoft's biggest Xbox game at E3 was without a doubt Halo 2. It was another one of those behind closed doors presentations given "Disneyland ride" style. That is, you line up for hours just to experience a thrill ride that excites your senses for only a few precious minutes with the outcome hopefully being you walking out with a silly grin on your face.

The folks at Microsoft/Bungie have decided that Halo 2 was to be their thrill ride of E3, and we were able to catch a run of it at the show. What we saw was a live demo running under Bungie's controlled environment. The presentation kicked off with the marine sergeant telling the live Bungie employee to sit down and shut up so that the game demo could get underway. It's great to see that Bungie humor.

As many of you have already seen from the original Halo 2 trailer, the graphics have been given a huge overhaul over the first game. The distinct style of the Halo universe is still there, but everything is more detailed and there are more special effects. Remember that Halo spent some of its developmental life as a PC/Mac game before switching over to Xbox. This time around, Halo 2 is being designed from the ground up as an Xbox game, so it will take better advantages of all the NV2A GPU.

The lighting system is a huge improvement over the first game, giving everything a greater sense of depth. MasterChief's suit looks especially impressive when its bump-mapped surfaces reflect the light around it. Having said that, the lighting model doesn't seem to be as advanced as DOOM III's, but then again, Halo 2 has shown far more onscreen action and larger environments.

On the gameplay side, fans of the first are going to have a lot to look forward to. The original Halo had the subtitle of "Combat Evolved," and Halo 2 looks to have gone through another evolutionary cycle. Part of the new game takes place on Earth, and the setting for the demo we were shown was in Mombassa, Africa. The city was under siege by Covenant forces, and MasterChief has been sent to take out the trash. You're dropped in a war zone, and immediately we noticed that combat has definitely evolved. There's a sense of urgency in the setting as you fight from area to area -- paced with the excitement that you expect from a war movie.

Once again you'll be facing battles with the aid of human marines, but this time they promise to be smarter and tougher -- just like the Covenant. Your marine help will be able to drive the warthog, allowing you to hop on the back and play the game as a rail shooter.

The warthogs have upgraded firepower as well. The first game's warthogs only had a Vulcan cannon mounted on the back, but the sequel has a large plasma type cannon which just loves to make things go boom. The fantastic Halo physics are back again, demonstrated by even larger explosions causing and even greater number of flying enemies and debris.

Many of the weapons from Halo 1 were shown again in Halo 2, and just like in the first you'll only be able to hold two weapons at any given time. New for the sequel, however, is the ability to wield two assault rifles akimbo. MasterChief's gonna be going John Woo on the baddies fo' sure. That's not the only move our favorite Spartan has picked up. Apparently MasterChief has been getting some ideas from Grand Theft Auto and figured that it'd be pretty cool to hijack Covenant vehicles. During this one greatly entertaining instance of the E3 demo, MasterChief grabbed onto a slow moving Ghost and proceeded to give a quick boot to the head of the pilot and took control of the ship. Instant classic!

The E3 demo we were shown was composed almost entirely of combat scenes, and from those scenes we can safely say that Halo 2 will have great action. That still leaves the question of what type of gameplay takes place away from the action. The first Halo was plagued with repetitive levels, almost to the point of classifying them as boring dungeon crawls. Hopefully, Halo 2 will have none of that -- but we'll find out for sure early 2004 when the game is released.

I just got my new xbox magazine and it talked about Halo for the PC. It looks so cool. There are new guns. One is a Covenant gun that is similar to the human rocket launcher. You can also use banshees in multiplayer. And there is a map that looks just like The Silent Cartagraphor level. This game looks so cool.

"Halo 2" surpasses its predecessor in graphical beauty and combat intensity. "'Halo 2' is a lot like 'Halo', only it's 'Halo' on fire, going 130 miles per hour through a hospital zone, being chased by helicopters and ninjas," explained Jason Jones, the head of Bungie Studios, "and the ninjas are all on fire, too." The Master Chief and his marine allies return to battle the full complement of Covenant forces, as well as as-of-yet-unrevealed foes.

"Halo 2" expands the Master Chief's already substantial arsenal with powerful new weapons, many pried from the twitching claws of his defeated enemies. This sequel also increases Halo's number of drivable vehicles giving players many more ways to speed into battle or explore the game's vast landscapes.

"Halo 2" is powered by a completely new graphics engine designed specifically for the Xbox hardware. "Our code squeezes every drop of power out of the Xbox," said Chris Butcher, one of "Halo 2's" engineering leads. "We're doing dynamic lighting and shadows, per-pixel everything, rendering gigantic, lush environments. The graphical features we're using are so advanced we don't even have buzzwords for them yet."

In addition to an epic single-player campaign, "Halo 2" has support for multiplayer action via split-screen, Xbox "System-Link" and online through Microsoft's "Xbox Live™" service. "We still have the multiplayer game-types that people loved in 'Halo', but we're planning something special for multiplayer in 'Halo 2,'" hinted Jaime Griesemer, "Halo 2's" lead designer. "I don't want to ruin the surprise, but imagine the essential 'Halo' single-player experience: pitched battles between the humans and the Covenant, massive vehicle and infantry engagements. Now imagine that every combatant is an actual person playing over Xbox Live!" "Halo 2's" online multiplayer will feature squad-oriented team-play, real-time voice chat and extensive community support when it ships at the end of next year.
